Tag Heuer Meridiist

April 29th, 2008 at 12:04pm Under Jewelry

by Erik Petersen
Like most guys I have a fascination with gadgets and toys. The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. There is a new gadget for me to drool over. Tag Heuer has come out with their own cell phone design. I love gadgets but there is nothing better than a great looking phone to get me drooling every time.

Tag Heuer has kept the phone along the same design line as their watches. The Tag Heuer Merediist elegantly combines colors and materials to create a work of art that you can make phone calls with. The phone is made with corrosion resistant watch making steel and dual 60.5 carat sapphire crystal displays. Yes, dual displays. There is a 1.9 inch QVGS main display. The second display constantly shows you the time with a monochrome OLED screen.

The list of features continues with Bluetooth, MP3/AAC/MPEG-4 playback, a 2.0 mega pixel digital camera, and a 7 hour talk time. Then, you have your choice of a rubber or crocodile leather backing. The crocodile leather is a very nice touch. Not only does the phone have a fantastic list of features it is a beautifully designed.

The use of materials and overall design is fantastic, as it better be for the over $5,000 dollar price. It is more expensive than my college car. But hey, you only live once so enjoy. Don’t forget to tell everybody that your Tag Heuer Meredist is Swiss engineered and hand assembled from 430 components.

A Platinum Engagement Ring: Timeless, Elegant And A Great Investment

April 29th, 2008 at 11:04am Under Jewelry

by Craig Thornburrow
A platinum engagement ring has become the preferred ring of choice because it is the purest metal compared to its counterparts.

Moreover, platinum is the easiest metal a jeweler can work with due to its pliability and softness. What makes platinum so pliable? Simply put; the elements such as palladium as well as ruthenium, iridium, rhodium, and osmium contained therein. Two of the elements, iridium and ruthenium, contribute to the heaviness of platinum as opposed to other metals.

Another feature one can find when purchasing platinum rings is there is no allergic reaction and the skin does not discolor as it would with other metals. Investing in a platinum engagement ring not only ensures its value will remain high, but it will last longer due to its durability.

The process by which a jeweler will use the prongs of the ring to encase a diamond is an easier task due to the size of the prongs. They hold the diamond quite securely; and there is no need to worry about a diamond loosening or becoming worn over time. In fact, little if any damage usually occurs to a platinum engagement ring as long as it is properly cared for.

Considering the price of gold these days, one would not be too surprised to learn that gold does tend to wear over time. However, this is not the case with platinum. Is white gold the same as platinum? Not really. White gold may turn yellow over time. In addition, while platinum is a harder metal, the prongs in white gold rings can break because it is more fragile.

While there are a myriad of platinum engagement ring settings available online, it would be prudent to purchase a platinum ring at a jeweler who is also a licensed gemologist. In this way, you can obtain a certificate outlining the cut, carat, clarity, and color of the diamond you choose to set in the ring.

In addition, when selecting a platinum ring you may wish to decide what setting is appropriate as well. For example, would you prefer a 6-prong, solitaire, or cathedral setting? The websites that offer these settings can be of tremendous help in making a decision.

Platinum jewelry, in and of itself, can be viewed as classy and elegant; whether it’s earrings, bracelets, or a platinum engagement ring. As mentioned earlier, choosing this type of ring has an increase in value over time, has proven durability, and is a soft metal that will offer years of enjoyment.

Facts about Diamond Flaws

April 29th, 2008 at 11:04am Under Jewelry

by Debra Gravelle
Natural Flaws within a Diamond

Many natural flaws can be discovered inside the formation of a diamond under the inspection process, these precious gemstones are considered imperfect. Most diamond flaws that occur during the formation of the diamond naturally are not visible to the naked eye and will rarely hinder its market value. The natural flaws that are found in diamonds are actually the inclusions of trace minerals and composites that were present in the area during the time of the natural formation process of the precious gemstone millions of years ago.

These minor inclusions can on occasion, cause the diamond it have a dull appearance or slight discoloration. A common diamond flaw, a tiny crack, will affect the stones clarity. As light passes through the stone, it is interrupted by the distorted reflection. More noticeable diamond flaws are inclusions of a mineral composite, creating a discoloration in the overall look. Rarely, is a diamond graded as “no flaw” and, to find one on the market would be an even rarer find.

Small natural flaws in a diamond will rarely affect the value of the diamond. On the other hand, diamond flaws that are large enough can cause a weakness in the gemstone itself. These larger than normal infractions and over sized inclusions may cause the precious stone to shatter or break under normal wear. Flaws of this nature, you need to be aware of since they do reduce the value of your gemstone.

Diamond Pinpoint Inclusion Flaws

A diamond that appears to have dark speckles, which resemble dirt clusters displaced throughout the gemstone, it is considered to have a natural diamond flaw called a pinpoint inclusion. If the dirt cluster like crystals are too dense to the naked eye and resembles a cloud, the clarity of the diamond will be affected when the diamond is graded by a gemologist or jeweler.

Diamond Imperfections caused by Laser Treatments

When a jeweler finds an imperfect diamond possessing cloud like crystal flaws he may choose to perform a laser treatment on the diamond, provided the diamond is feasibly large enough to maintain the market values. Laser treatments are often used on imperfections to increase the diamonds appeal and to either gain or maintain market value for the precious stone. Laser treatments are visible from the outer edge of the diamond and works inward to the discoloration area of the diamond cut. The laser performs a bleaching effect on the area that is discolored. After treatment is completed, a glass like substance may be used to fill in the space created by the laser.

Diamond Flaws caused by Mineral and Crystal Inclusions

Not all diamond imperfections have a negative impact on its market value. Diamonds can also create eye catching and pleasing flaws within its character. Minerals that were trapped during the natural processes of the diamond formation can cause imperfections. These various minerals or crystals can give the diamond a hue of yellow to brown, green, and pink, or blue like in the case of the infamous Hope Diamond.

In rare instances, another precious gemstone can be found inside the diamond, and is not seen or graded as an imperfection flaw. Diamonds have been recovered that had another valuable carbon based gemstone embedded inside of the diamond. In which case, the diamond would take on an extremely rare characteristic and would be graded highly by the jeweler in respect to market value.

Mens Watches are a great gift

April 29th, 2008 at 10:04am Under Jewelry

by Jonathan Blocker
Mens Watches are a great gift. Always On Time…Luxury Watches For All Occasions

If Lucille Ball’s character in the 1940 Rodgers & Hart musical Too Many Girls had been wearing one of today’s fine luxury watches from Movado, Citizen or Cartier, she might not have wound up singing the plaintive lyrics “…I — didn’t know what time it was…” Those who own such quality designer watches always know what time it is — and such gifts, whether to one’s self or to another, are always appropriate, always appreciated, and always useful. Read on and learn more about quality luxury watches.

New…And Yet, Old

Actually, the idea of designer watches is a fairly new one, going back only about 140 years or so. If that seems not-so-new, consider that the first men’s watches came into being during the days of King Henry VIII, Martin Luther and Ivan the Terrible — just a little more than a century after the invention of the first spring-driven mechanical clocks around 1400!

These early men’s watches were relatively large by modern standards - unwieldy devices that gentlemen wore on a chain around their necks and were neither particularly durable nor accurate. As craftsmen learned to miniaturize the components over the course of the subsequent two centuries however, the pocket watch became a necessary masculine accoutrement, and with the dawn of the Industrial Age, even a required tool of many trades.

For The Ladies

There appears to have been custom-made ladies gold watches as far back as the 1700s, but these were worn by royalty and aristocracy for the most part. The first ladies watches that were worn commonly by women of the middle class were actually the first “wrist watches,” known as bracelet watches. These were some of the earliest designer watches available, first manufactured in the U.S. during the late 1860s. (Mens watches designed to be worn on the wrist didn’t come along until 1904 when aviation pioneers realized it was necessary to have a timepiece that allowed them to keep both hands on the controls.)

Settle For Nothing Less Than The Best

Movado watches, crafted in Switzerland by a company whose name literally means “ever in motion,” set the standard for luxury watches. These extra fine timepieces not only use the latest technology in their construction, but also feature sleek, Art-Deco influenced minimalist design that is unique and immediately identify the wearers as people who appreciate only the best life has to offer. Movado diamond watches come in hundreds of variations and models, making it easy to find a timepiece that is virtually one-of-a-kind. Once you’ve experienced one of Movado’s fine luxury watches, you’ll fully appreciate the old expression “runs like a Swiss watch.”

Seiko Watch Company History

April 29th, 2008 at 10:04am Under Jewelry

by Erik Petersen
The history of the Seiko watch company goes back to 1881 when Kintaro Hattori opened a jewelry shop in Tokyo. Hattori started a company over a hundred years ago that is now one of the largest watch manufacturers in the world. Everyone has heard of Seiko and everyone knows that if they buy a Seiko they will get a great looking reliable timepiece.

In 1892 Hattori began making clocks under the name of Seikosha. An interesting piece of trivia was revealed in “A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko” (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning “exquisite” or “success”. Very quickly Seiko became known for its fine craftsmanship and in 1938 increased its production to over a million units.

Seiko has continued to be innovative throughout their history. The first watches made under the Seiko name came out in the market in 1924. The list of firsts continues with the first self-winding watch in 1955, the first production quartz watch in 1969, the first quartz chronograph, the first LCD watch in 1973, the first “ultra-accurate” twin quartz watch (maintains less than 5 seconds of deviation per year) in 1978, and many other first technological timepiece advances.

Seiko produces a broad range of products, from quartz to mechanical ranging in price from $50 to $100,000. Through the years Seiko has managed to stay innovative and push watch technology forward. One of Seiko’s latest innovations, the Kinetic line is their most sold product. The Kinetic line combines the function of the automatic watch with quartz accuracy.

Bulova Watch Company History

April 29th, 2008 at 09:04am Under Jewelry

by Erik Petersen
The Bulova watch company we know started in 1875 when Joseph Bulova immigrated from Bohemia to New York at the age of 23. Joseph opened a small jewelry store in New York City. In 1911 Joseph began manufacturing desk clocks and nice pocket watches. He had refined a manufacturing process and began making and selling his products at an accelerated rate.

During World War I wristwatches were issued to soldiers to allow them the ability to organize attacks. Soldiers returning from the war brought their watches home creating a new trend. Since Joseph already had the manufacturing capabilities and jewelry design background he was able to take advantage of the new fashion. To fulfill the need of this new fashion Bulova created his first full line of men’s jeweled wristwatches in 1919. The men’s line of watches was followed by his first full line of lady’s wristwatches and diamond wristwatches.

When the United States became involved in World War II Bulova began creating precision equipment for the military. Bulova manufactured wristwatches, specialized timepieces, aircraft instruments and torpedo mechanisms for the military. This contract of course allowed Bulova’s business to boom. At the end of the war Bulova created a watch making school to teach disabled veterans a new trade.

In 1950 Bulova completed the development of the first electronic watch. The creation of the electronic watch was said to be the first breakthrough in watch technology in 300 years. Because of this technology during the 1960’s NASA asked Bulova to utilize the Accutron technology to work on computers for the space program. This work allowed Accutron’s timing mechanism to be an important part of space technology.

Through the years Bulova Watch Company has continued their tradition of growth and innovation. Due to their innovation and growth Bulova offers a wide range of elegant dress watches, casual watches, and sport watches.

by Keith Jacobsen Sr.

When it comes to making a choice or liking something, children have a mind of their own. Hence, watch manufacturers regularly come up with new innovative designs that are sure to captivate young hearts and minds. They zero in on the latest development that is popular amongst children and come out with watches on those particular themes.

So today, you have a plethora of choices to choose from. If your child loves a particular cartoon character then you might select a watch that has a picture of that character on its strap or dial. At times, you might come across a watch that is actually shaped like a cartoon character.

Moreover, today children love gizmos. More and more children are taking an interest in having fun, using a mobile or an electronic gadget. Children usually have a practical bent of mind and are keen to discover new things. There are watches available that integrate the very best of features with some fun elements to make them a great option when it comes to children’s watches.

There are various brands available in the market that cater to the requirement of children. You not only have a choice of the more up-market brands but you also have the choice of going for affordable versions that are as pleasing to the eye and as practical and reliable.

A Part of Movie Merchandise

There are quite a large number of movies that are released every year that specifically target children. Film makers have also explored a novel way to promote their movies. They do this by the sale of movie merchandise that is configured around the various characters that are a part of their movies. Kids love such merchandise and love to sport watches, whose designs resemble the characters in the latest movie.

More often than not, in such cases, it’s a case of my friends have got it, so I want one to. You must be well aware that many of the kid’s choices are also based on peer pressure. This is why children’s watches that are a part of movie merchandise are so popular these days.

Usage

We all know that the most practical use of a watch is to help know the time. However, other than this they do have a few abstract uses that are innately beneficial to the person. From an early age, the watch is a reflection of the character and personality of the wearer. Children only choose a particular watch that caters to their interest at that particular point of time.

More importantly, you will come to realize that as they grow older, the choices of children also speak of maturity. It is evident from the selection of their watches.

Choosing Children’s Watches

If you are not taking your child along with you for the process of selection then you must be well aware of the interests of your child and what are the latest trends in terms of watch designs. Children usually appreciate only those items that not only they would like but which would also be appreciated by their friends.

If you think that your child won’t be able to take good care of the watch then there is no point in you getting an expensive piece. You can choose amongst a large number of affordable options available in the market. Moreover, your choice can be based on the parameters of durability and strength of the children’s watch. Moreover, you must also take care as to the requirements when it comes to the gender of your child. Girls would love an effeminate watch, but most boys wouldn’t wear such a watch.

All in all buying a children’s watch is not that difficult a task. All you need to do is go around a few shops, look at a few choices and then make your decision.

Mens Watches

April 25th, 2008 at 10:04pm Under Jewelry

by Keith Jacobsen Sr.
If you ask a given sample of men as to what, according to them, is the most important accessory of all, chances are that a majority of them would say that it is a watch.

Watch is the essential style statement for men, women, and believe it or faint, even for children. So it’s important that you keep a few pointers in mind while purchasing men’s watches.

The Lifestyle Choice

If you want to choose according to your lifestyle then it would be a pretty good idea if you have different watches for work and play. If you choose a men’s watch taking into consideration the lifestyle of a particular person, then it will definitely make for more variety. A person going for a formal watch should take care to select something that is classy or long-lasting in terms of style.

Pick the right watch for a particular occasion. Do not select a watch that measures heights, has a compass, digital display, and the likes for a formal occasion or formal party. Such watches are best kept for non-formal occasions. In the end, whether you like it or not the lifestyle might be the only thing that dictates the choice of a watch. Everything else is secondary.

Feasibility of a Stainless-Steel Bracelet

A person looking for a practical watch might just prefer a watch with a stainless steel bracelet. It can be a more practical option than a leather strap or bracelet is because it radiates class as well as an informal look. A watch with a stainless steel bracelet can not only be worn on formal occasion but also as a casual wear.

If you are willing to spend a good bit of money then a gold strap is also a pretty good option, but you might want to be careful of the image that it will portray.

The Face of the Watch

The size of the face must be in sync with the size of the wrist that is wearing the watch. If a man’s wrist is big, then even a watch with a standard sized face will end up looking like a ladies watch. Today, you will get a host of options to choose from when it comes to the sizes or the face of the watch. Make sure that the size you buy is compatible with the size of the wrist.

However, watches with a bigger watch face have become all the rage now, and whether the person is big or not, he prefers a watch whose face is larger than the standard size. Whatever may be the case, there is no doubt that such watches are great to look at.

The Resistance to Water

All watches these days, come with a water resistant tag attached to it. However, the point is until and unless it comes to the well-known brands, watches have found to be wanting in this regard. You must be well aware as to the extent of water resistance in the watches. You might choose to wear your water resistant watch in pouring rain, and come home to find that your watch has stopped working.

So be very careful as to this feature. The best way is to keep your watch away from water as much as can be helped.

When it comes to men’s watches, the choices are enough to make a mind boggle. You must be price conscious and style conscious. If purchasing a gift, bear in mind the interest and personality of the person that you are buying it for. You might like a watch but the man you are getting it for, might not like it. So put yourself into his shoes to know what he would like and dislike. Only then make your choice!

6 Defining Characteristics Of Tag Heuer Sports Watch

April 25th, 2008 at 09:04pm Under Jewelry

by WON
Every watch company on the market has their own style and characteristics that sum them up. Many have similar models or certain dials they use for people to identify them by. But few have as many defining characteristics as Tag Heuer Sports timepieces. Here are 6 characteristics you can find with many Tag Heuer watches.

1. The first characteristic you will find is the unidirectional turning bezel with minutes scale. Along with this there are six studs for the best diving-glove grip possible. This makes it clearly visible to see the dial and allows for an incredible grip.

2. Whether you are deep-sea diving or playing basketball, you never want to have a luxurious watch like a Tag Heuer sports watch fall off of your wrist. A defining characteristic about the sports watches is the double safety clasp found on many. This assures you your watch is safe on your wrist regardless of what activity you are participating in.

3. A popular activity amongst sporty people is swimming, which is what makes these timepieces so convenient for the average swimmer. There is a remarkable 300 meter water resistance allowing you to go the distance with your watch.

4. To further ensure your watch is water resistant, there is a screw-in crown to protect your watch. A screw-in crown is a watch winding crown that screws tightly to the case of the watch on a tube to ensure extreme water resistance.

5. To give you the finest quality and most scratch-resistance possible, there is sapphire-crystal with an anti-reflective treatment.

6. The last defining characteristic you can find on Tag Heuer sports timepieces is luminescent hands and indexes.

It is not often that you can find a watch company that remains consistent with their timepieces. Obviously you want variety amongst the different models and watches, but it is nice to have defining characteristics between certain styles. Tag Heuer sports watches have become iconic for their amazing elegance, yet still sporty watches. There are few companies on the market that achieve what Tag Heuer does, and a large part has to do with the defining characteristics they have to offer year after year.

Even with new models coming out, the characteristics seem to remain the same. There will be new features, new colors, and new gadgets to play with on the newer models. But you can expect to find the same six characteristics in virtually every sport watch Tag Heuer has to offer.
