When buying a diamond, there are some important facts that you should know. Exactly how valuable is the diamond you are purchasing, and are you getting your monies worth? The quality and value of diamonds are measured by four factors, known as the 4C’s.
These 4C’s refer to cut, colour, carat weight and clarity. The quality of a diamond is measured by cut, colour and clarity, while the carat weight refers to the size of the diamond. Of the 4C’s, cut is the characteristic directly influenced by man, while colour, clarity and carat weight are all dictated by nature.
A diamond in its natural, uncut state is called a ‘rough’ diamond. In this rough state, it resembles nothing more than a piece of glass. It is the skill of the cutter that makes a diamond as beautiful as what it is known for.
It is important to know the difference between cut and shape. Popular shapes include Round Brilliant, Oval, Pear, Heart and Emerald. Within these shapes, the cut determines the quality of the stone. Most diamonds are cut with 58 facets, regardless of the shape.
Diamond Colour
A diamond’s colour is one of the most important factors when determining the value of the stone. With white diamonds, the closest the diamond is to being completely colourless, the more valuable it is. Diamonds are graded into categories defined by letters. This colour ranges from exceptional whites (categories D, E and F) to tinted colours (categories M to Z). Fancy coloured diamonds are graded by intensity of colour, not lack thereof.
Diamond Clarity
During the formation of a diamond there is the possibility of minute particles of non crystallized carbon or non-diamond crystals to get caught in the diamond. These little imperfections are called inclusions and provide each diamond with unique characteristics.
Inclusions may not always be visible with the naked eye, but they do interfere with the passing of light through the diamond. The fewer inclusions the diamond has, the more valuable it is.
Clarity is characterized by different grading scales, based on number, size and position of inclusions within the diamond. Grading ranges from flawless and internally flawless, very small and small inclusions, to imperfect.
Diamond Carat
A carat is the unit of measurement used to determine the weight of the diamond. The actual weight of one carat is 0.2 grams. Diamonds are weighed prior to setting for a more accurate measurement and are priced per carat according to their size and quality. Even though the carat weight of a diamond is relative to its size, it is not always relative to the quality of the diamond. Therefore if two diamonds have the same carat weight, the one could be more valuable because of a better quality.

The word jewelry is derived from Latin word jocale, means plaything. But it is the most ancient form of body ornamentation. In ancient times, jewelry was used to be made from bone, animal teeth, shells, wood, carved stones, etc. A specific piece was made for each part of the body. Apart from functional use, jewelry was a symbol of wealth, status and membership. It had been used to move wedding dowries, to keep large amount of wealth or to just for artistic display.
With the growing influx of designer or art jewelry, people not only love to wear it but also don`t mind spending lavishly on it. Such designs are made with coins, gemstones, precious stones, etc. and they are set into precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, or white gold. These days most of the gold jewelry is made of an alloy of gold, stating its purity in karat by displaying a number followed by K.
American gold jewelry are of 10 K which is 41.7% gold. Higher purity levels are 22K which is 91.6 % pure and 24K which is 99.9% pure and these levels are used in Asia, Middle East and Africa. For silver jewelry, silver sterling or 92.5% fine silver is used. Besides, the low-priced jewelry is also available. Such jewelries are made with glass, semiprecious stones, wood, shells, bone, ivory, etc. Beads, made of glass, gemstones, metals, clay, polymer clay and wood, are also used to make bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and rings.
Among the precious stones, diamonds are said to be the best friends of women. There are other gemstones also like amethyst, ruby, emerald, etc. These gemstones are set into gold, silver and platinum with different techniques to get different finishing such as high-polished or matt. Brushed finishing gives jewelry a soft look, while hammered finishing gives a wavy texture.
Jewelry posed different significance for different cultures. Like in Rome, people with certain ranks were allowed to wear rings. In other case, during 19th and 20th centuries, wearing of earrings by men was considered effeminate. According to recent culture, piercing of body and wearing rings there has become a symbol of courage, while other cultures are against it. Wearing of jewelry has got religious importance too. According to Hinduism, married women should wear necklace of golden and black beads, whereas in Islam, men should wear gold.
The history of jewelry dates back to thousands of years. The first signs of jewelry were found, 40,000 years back, in Cro-Magnons who originated from Middle East and migrated to Europe. They used to make jewelry with bones, teeth, stone hung etc. Copper jewelry traces back to 7000 years. In ancient Egypt, jewelry making is 3000- 5000 years old. They preferred gold to other materials and used colored glass in place of gems. Then the signs of jewelry found in other places too like Mesopotamia, Greece, Italy, India, and China and all over.
The trend of modern jewelry started in 1940s at the end of World War II. George Jensen and other designers propogated the idea of wearable jewelry using different materials like Precious Metal Clay, plastics, semi precious stones, and coloring techniques. Artisans also played important role in setting trends in jewelry. Now the jewelry designing has become a source of money and to satisfy the passion of art.
According to recent studies, American market holds the largest place with a market share of 30.8%, Japan, India and China and the Middle East each with 8 - 9% and finally Italy with 5%. Also it is predicted that there will be dramatic change in the statistics of market share by 2015, having India and China in the topmost position.

The Nature of Rare Collectibles.
As their name suggests, all rare collectibles are scarce, hard to find items. They can be antiques that are desirable because of their age, type of craftsmanship or some other unique feature that represents the past. Some rare collectibles are so old that they are considered to be antiquities - artifacts of an ancient civilization such as ancient Greek or ancient Chinese society. Alternatively, rare collectibles can be of very recent origin, sometimes being only a few years old.
The common denominator of all rare collectibles, no matter what their type or age, is rarity. Frequently, because of their scarcity and their appeal, rare collectibles are also valuable. But whether they are valuable or inexpensive, rare collectibles are always important pieces in a collection.
Rare is …
The definition of “rare” or “rarity” changes with the type of object, and accordingly, the definition of “rare collectibles” is somewhat imprecise - there is no strict line of demarcation between what is “rare” and what is “not rare.” In some instances an item is considered to be a rare collectible because only one or two examples of that object are known to exist in the entire world. In other cases, hundreds or even thousands of a particular object may have survived to the present, but because their existence has not yet been discovered (such as very old porcelain dolls that were kept in a trunk that is now buried in an attic) or they are fragile and easily damaged (such as pottery, an early postage stamp or a 200 year-old piece of paper ephemera), high quality examples are considered to be scarce.
Almost Any Type of Object Can Become a Rare Collectible, if Scarce Enough.
Thousands of different types of rare collectibles exist throughout the world. Certain coins and postage stamps, books and manuscripts, pottery, weapons and other militaria, antique tools, original artwork, antique furniture, and paper ephemera can all be rare collectibles. “Paper ephemera” consists of written or printed material that has survived to the present despite the fact that the pieces were originally produced as disposable items, intended to be quickly discarded or destroyed. Examples of ephemera that can be rare collectibles include certain postcards, posters, trade cards, leaflets, exposition programs and advertising flyers, all common enough at the time, but mostly thrown away almost immediately. Some autographs, travel souvenirs and collectible memorabilia are also rare collectibles.
Rare collectibles can be from anywhere in the world and from any culture. Rare Oriental collectibles include small items such as Chinese Dynastic pottery or temple objects, as well as large items such as articles of traditional clothing or armor from the Japanese feudal period. European rare collectibles are equally varied, and range from ancient Greek statuary to the beautifully illuminated (illustrated) maps that were drawn by early cartographers during the Age of Exploration in the 16th Century. Collectible, rare objects from the Americas include certain pieces of Native American (Indian) pottery, blankets or beadwork, original historical documents from Colonial or Revolutionary times, and ancient Inca, Aztec or Maya amulets, pottery and carvings.
Why Collect Rare Collectibles?
Many people seek out rare collectibles because of their inherent value. For these people, rare collectibles are a form of investment. But the primary motivation for many other collectors is the “thrill of the hunt” - that certain sense of satisfaction that is felt when a very hard to find piece is tracked down and finally located somewhere in the world

Get Set for Summer with Some Cool Christian T-Shirts, Christian Wristbands, Christian Biker T-Shirts, Christian Jewelry and More!
It is almost summertime–what will you be wearing? If you are a Christian, then you will want to add some cool Christian t-shirts to your warm-weather wardrobe. You might select Christian biker t-shirts for a rugged yet religious look. Everyone can make a spiritual statement with Christian wristbands and Christian jewelry as well. So join in the fun, and get ready for summer!
Cool Christian T-Shirts
There are dozens of different sayings, colors and styles of cool Christian t-shirts from which you can choose your favorites. Christian biker t-shirts are making a bold fashion statement for the summer season, and for good reason. Bikers are usually thought of as big, tough guys and gals. This may be true, but nevertheless bikers of faith want to offer the Good News to all with whom they come in contact. This is where Christian biker t-shirts make a lot of sense. They come with bold messages and designs that bikers look for in t-shirts. You do not have to be a biker to wear a biker-style t-shirt, however. Non-bikers know that the biker look is very popular right now, and so biker t-shirts fly off the shelves of Christian clothing stores.
Christian Jewelry
Men and women alike love jewelry, and if you have someone special in your life, you might want to consider giving that person a wonderful piece of Christian jewelry. You can select from rings, bracelets and necklaces that all convey a message of Christ’s love, and your love will come through with that message as well. The cross symbol is a powerful one, and you will find it on all manner of Christian jewelry. Bracelets can utilize tube beads, wide and narrow bands of leather, macrame bands and other attractive components. Necklaces often come in a variety of rugged masculine styles and more fancy feminine styles. If you like the look of dog tags such as those worn in the Army, then there are Christian necklaces that you will cherish. Crosses are always popular worn around the neck, and you can find several that come with metal and beaded necklaces. The Celtic cross is a lovely adaptation of the traditional cross shape, and you can find it available as a necklace that you would be proud to own.
A fun new necklace style that Christians will appreciate is one that features attractive guitar pick ornaments. We all have our favorite Christian guitarists, and now you can honor that person by wearing a necklace that pays homage to one of their tools of the trade, a guitar pick.
So get set for fun this summer with all kinds of new Christian clothes and accessories!
Susan Slobac helps promote that Christian clothing is making its way into the workplace and classrooms alike with their edgy statements and thought-provoking designs.

Celtic Jewelry
Any woman in your life will appreciate nice jewelry, whether it’s a wife, sister, best friend, or grandmother. Irish jewelry is particularly meaningful, as it is rich with symbolism and meaning that will definitely be enjoyed by any woman, Irish or not.
There are all types of Celtic jewelry. The Claddagh symbol is a pair of hands that hold a perfectly formed heart. A crown sits on top of the heart. The heart symbolizes love, the hands mean friendship, and the crown is for loyalty. The symbolism is a perfect romantic touch for any couple and can be used as a Celtic engagement ring and a Celtic wedding ring.
Trinity knots are another symbol of love and eternity for the Irish, and also have religious symbolism as well, with three points representing the Trinity.
Celtic crosses date back to 5th century BC and are a beautiful addition to any jewelry collection, whether they are Celtic cross necklaces or earrings.
Regardless of the Celtic symbol you like, Celtic jewelry can be in the form of earrings, pendants, rings, and more, making something for everyone. The occasions that Celtic jewelry is appropriate for are many, including anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, mother’s day, or any time you want to give a perfect Irish gift.
Waterford Crystal
What once began as a small glass factory in Waterford, Ireland over four centuries ago, Waterford Crystal consists of some of the most beautiful decorative items and crystal in the world. Waterford Crystal even creates the famous Times Square ball for the world famous New Years celebration broadcast there each year. Beautiful Irish gift ideas include frames, wine glasses, candelabras, and vases, just to name a few.
Belleek China
Belleek China has had a reputation for exquisite Irish craftsmanship since it began 150 years ago, when the founder declared that any piece with the slightest flaw should be destroyed. Because they are all hand made and hand painted, no two pieces are ever the same. This makes a piece of Belleek China a truly unique Irish gift, whether it is for a collector, someone with Irish heritage, or anyone who appreciates beautiful pottery and design.

Whether you are thinking of buying loose diamonds for mounting in a piece of diamond jewelry or as an investment, you’ll want to educate yourself ahead of time and learn all you can about certified diamonds. Not every gem mounted in a piece of diamond jewelry is valuable, so its important to know what to look for.
Before You Begin
Two things that are necessary to know before you start looking at diamonds for sale are:
1.) the current state of the diamond market
2.) the names of some trustworthy independent appraisers
The second point is very important. If you’re buying diamonds for your diamond jewelry — or even looking a diamond engagement rings or other mounted pieces — if the seller refers you to his own in-house appraisal service or one operated by an “acquaintance,” at best it’s a clear conflict of interest — and at worst, he’s out to cheat you.
Don’t take that chance when shopping for diamond jewelry. Go out and find a reputable appraiser on your own. Because the diamond market is concentrated and under the control of a relatively few entities, you’ll have to do some homework in order to locate an independent appraiser.
What Does “Certified Diamonds” Mean?
When diamonds are “certified,” it means that they have been evaluated at a professional gemology lab. There, the gemologist evaluates the loose gems in terms of:
- Clarity
- Color
- Carat
These are objective, measurable characteristics that determine a diamond’s grade — but not necessarily its monetary value. The certification however is useful for the appraiser in determining the final value. Certified diamonds are graded and ready to be appraised.
The Appraisal
When it comes to individual diamonds that are not yet set in diamond engagement rings or other diamond jewelry, the appraiser uses the grade given in by the gemologist, then factors in characteristics that are not easily quantified, such as cut and fire (sparkle and brilliance). The type of cut can affect the value, especially if the cut is currently popular. “Princess cuts” are fairly popular for use in diamond engagement rings, whereas a square “emerald cut” may be more appropriate for cufflinks and other men’s jewelry.
The Investment
Individual diamonds may or may not be a good investment, but depending on the overall quality, diamond jewelry certainly can be. Whether its diamond engagement rings, brooches, necklaces and bracelets, earrings or even tiaras, it’s good to have your diamond jewelry evaluated and appraised, even if its just for the insurance.
Jonathon Blocker writes about diamond jewelry, colored diamonds, and certified loose diamonds. He is a consultant for GemFind.com, a trusted name in the jewelry industry since 1999.

Some of the best relationships have been forged and studded with a gift of diamond jewelry. Over a period of time diamonds have become the symbol of long lasting love for many generations. Perhaps it has something to do with the clarity, cut, color and carat and not to mention its durability amongst gemstones. The importance of diamonds would have been lost forever had it not been for the mine workers in the African continent who found them and put a shine to it in the early 17th century. Coupled with legendary stories, myths and designer pieces that adorned Hollywood stars, diamonds have become best friends for millions of women worldwide. Every woman wants to buy at least one diamond worth her name during her lifetime and secretly wishes that this ‘rockstar’ be presented by the prince charming of her dreams.
How does one buy diamond jewelry? The market is full of expensive, fake, colored diamonds. There are exclusive designer stores, jewelry designers who sell single pieces, cheap diamonds, etc. Moreover diamonds now come studded in engagement rings, wedding rings and the elite solitaire that can make eyes dazzle. There is some basic information that every buyer needs to be equipped with to get value for money and the relationship! Before buying diamonds decide and define its purpose. Are you:
1. shopping for it to gift a special mate?
2. buying for yourself as a compliment for losing weight?
3. gifting it to your parents on their diamond anniversary?
4. Searching for loose diamonds to design your own jewelry?
5. coveting branded diamond pieces to make a social statement?
Once you have clarity, it becomes easier to buy this great gemstone that mankind has ever known. Genuine diamonds make the ring, necklace, bracelet, chain, earrings or anything that it is studded with, more valuable. Buying it is an investment, as it is costly. If it is of a good quality, it is an asset. Largely buying from reputed diamond stores is a good idea. The jewelers themselves choose the best diamonds and cuts to make the items. Since they have the expertise they pass the quality to the customers. Satisfied clients naturally return for more jewelry.
A branded store will provide the essential service- delivery, cleaning, repair and offer guarantee on the product. If necessary they will also replace it because through their diamond jewelry, they want customers for ever.

Shopping for watches can be one of the most gratifying experiences there is. Especially if you are a watch enthusiast, a wide selection of watches of different sizes, colors, shapes, styles and materials, is surely a feast to the eyes.
However, buying watches is not entirely that simple. People who shop for watches, either for personal use or to give as a gift, is usually confronted with this very significant question: which is more important, style or quality?
While some would say that style should be the top priority, others would contend that quality is what truly determines its value. On one hand, quality is what makes it endure a lifetime while style or the watch’s physique, on the other, is what makes you feel good wearing it.
Those who are in favor of quality cannot just undermine the worth of style. It is the same thing with those who are adherent to style. Failing to recognize the value of quality in watches is almost synonymous to buying disposable ones.
So which aspect really holds more value?
The answer is that it depends on how you will wear the watch. In order for you to find out which of these two values you should prioritize, you should be able to determine what specific purpose you intend to do with the watch. Aside from its primary function of telling the time, you should be able to point out if you intend to use your watch for sports, for work, for leisure or just as a fashion accessory.
If you intend to use your watch for sports or for work, it would be sensible that you prioritize quality over style. Sports watches for instance are much tougher and more durable than most other watches, which is ideal for athletes and those that have busy lifestyles.
Casual watches are for leisure. These kinds of watches are somewhat in the middle. They are neither too stylish nor too tough. But their being comfortable and simple makes it ideal for everyday use.
When it comes to watches that are mainly used as a fashion accessory such as dress watches, style plays a key role. It may not be as resilient as sports watches but it has a style that is more elegant. It is the type of watch that adds chic to one’s look. It is the perfect thing to wear for formal occasions.
In order for you to find out whether it’s style or quality that should step up the ladder, you must choose a watch that blends well with your lifestyle.
But of course, the best answer still is to always strive to achieve a balance between the two. A watch, being both an accessory and a timepiece should have both style and quality in it since these two aspects are equally important.
These two aspects work hand in hand to give us a watch, which we can say is truly a worthy investment. The good news is there are many brands that both exude style and quality without having to completely sacrifice the other.
