Why Wear A Lingerie?

June 24th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

Lingerie is a hot ticket item that has had a very long and prosperous history as an enhancer of the female form. Researchers believe that the very first type of lingerie for females was found in the Mediterranean. This sighting was about two thousand years before Christ and it was the catalyst for the world of lingerie for women. The lingerie market grew rather quickly and today, it is popular among all demographics with every type of woman. It has grown into a multi million dollar industry that is growing and changing everyday.

Basically, you can divide lingerie for women into two different categories: things that enhance parts of the body women already have and ones that hide and conceal things that women would rather not have. There are some items that cross over into both categories like corsets and bustiers. Corsets are a type of lingerie that tightens around the body to create a slimming effect on the waist and make it appear to be much smaller, but with curves too. Bustiers are great for women who are insecure about their chest because it pushes up the breasts and creates a more defined bust line.

Probably the most common and basic type of lingerie is the bra. There was a time when bras barely even existed and were only used as an occasional alternative to corsets, but today, they have become much more mainstreamed. Bras are a great and versatile piece of lingerie because they serve many different functions. Bras are designed in so many different ways that they fit the needs of any type of woman in the world today. They can support women who have bigger than normal breasts which is great because it helps them by providing a solid source of back support.

This type of lingerie can also give sagging breasts a much needed boost and enhance smaller busts to make then appear larger. Some of the most common enhancers are forms of gel that are built into the cup of the bra to provide extra padding. Today, designers are developing matching sets of bras and panties that are becoming extremely popular. Women love lingerie that makes them feel sexy because it helps with their overall attitude about themselves.

Lingerie is an industry that has been around for ages and shows no signs of slowing down. So, check out the latest sexy lingerie items today and give your self image a boost that every woman deserves.

The Construction Of The Famous Corset

June 24th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

Corsets are loosely defined as garments that are worn to mold or shape the torso into a desired shape for aesthetic or medical purposes and first came about in the early 1800s. The construction of corsets has always been kept rather simple over the years and many designers still continue to make new and updated versions today. They are typically made of a flexible material like cloth, most notably coutil, or possibly even leather.

This material is then stiffened with boning which is a process of clinching and shaping the corset fabric. The designer inserts these, often referred to as ribs or stays, into channels in the cloth or leather to give it a desired shape. When corsets were first introduced in the 19th century, whalebone and steel were the things that were favored for the boning process. Some people opted for a cheaper substitute like featherbone that was constructed from flattened strips of goose quill and were woven together with yarn to form one long strip.

The last step of designing a corset is figuring out how you want it to be tied together. Usually, corsets are held together by lacing at the back, but this is not always the case. Tightening or loosening the lacing process produces corresponding changes in the firmness of the corset. There are many different styles of lacing that designers use; it depends on the effect that they are looking to create. They can either be laced from the top down, from the bottom up, or from the bottom up and down from the top which would involve using two laces that meet in the middle. Typically, it is almost impossible for someone to lace up their own corset because it involves reaching around to the back to make it tight enough.

In the Victorian age when corsets were extremely popular, it was very common for an upper class woman to be laced up by her maid and a man by his valet. Throughout time though, many corsets were constructed with a buttoned or hooked front opening that was known as a busk. So, once they had the lacing adjusted comfortably and the way they wanted it, they were then able to take it on and off without any additional assistance.

Corsets were a very popular item for men and women hundreds of years ago, but the female market for them has continued to grow into the present day. They are a beautiful addition to any wardrobe and really help to give a woman that shapely figure that we all desire.

Fantasy Wear Adds Excitement to Your Life

February 10th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

Your everyday clothing can often get a bit boring. After all, the clothes you wear when you go out to work or school are often designed to help you blend in to the mainstream. As a result, your everyday wardrobe often lacks any real excitement or embellishment. If you are looking for a way to create some excitement in your clothing, fantasy clothing provides you with the perfect way to inject some creativity and imagination into your standard attire. Along with your standard everyday clothing, and sometimes in place of it, fantasy clothing has taken on an interesting and growing niche as more and more people use fantasy clothing to draw attention and interest to their own appearance.

One thing that is great about fantasy clothing is that you can pick and choose from styles suites to a variety of social classes and cultures. Men’s fantasy clothing includes styles of dress commonly worn by lords, warriors and knights. Women’s fantasy clothing includes the lady court and daily wear of Medieval times, as well as the peasant and wench. Whatever you want to dress up for, you will find some fantasy clothing for your tastes.

Fantasy Clothing Throughout the Ages

Wearing fantasy clothing is not just a recent phenomenon. In pre-modern times, ancient peoples would wear fantasy clothing influenced by the natural environment: fangs, ivory earrings, rings, talons necklaces, feathers, masks, and tattoo or body paint were common. As a general rule, the more important you were, the more ornaments you would adorn yourself with. In the middle ages, Europeans weren’t the only men in the world who loved to go this way. If the fantasy genre is inspired by the European medieval history, then there were the Turk and Byzantine people and Chinese along with the Japanese who followed suit.

The Range of Fantasy Clothing

Fantasy wear comes in a wide array of wigs, hats, masks, costumes, props, decorations, make-up and accessories for any fantasy setting. For a long time, such dress has been the choice of individuals, professionals, non-profit organizations and corporations during certain holidays and for other special events. These outfits are brought out for parties and special events, trade shows and fundraisers, theatrical, television and movie productions.

Common Fantasy Clothing Options

Deluxe fantasy costumes may include such fantasy clothing as that designed for angels, vampires or genies. Angel costumes are popular fantasy clothing options that feature full-length gowns, wire supported lace and organza wings, with a gray rose halo. In some fantasy dress, lace and organza have been frayed and tattered through a special process. Batavia costumes contain a full-length velvet and shimmer-satin robe with attached mesh cape, fingerless gloves, and jeweled tulle bat choker. Vampire costumes often feature a velvet vest with attached shirt sleeves and scarf collar. It also comes with a full length lined satin cape with white gloves and medallion on ribbon. A genie costume could contain gold trimmed glimmer vests with organza sleeves and a hat with a veil. Gothic costumes are full of lace trimmed panne and satin gowns.

Fantasy Clothing the Kids Will Love

Kids love dressing up in fantasy clothing. After all, fantasy clothing is all about fun, imagination, and creativity — things that are always great qualities for children. One thing that boys and girls of all ages love dressing up as is superheroes. It is not surprising that one of the most popular fantasy clothing outfits for kids is Batman. However, adults also may enjoy the thought of dressing in this type of fantasy clothing. Adult Batman fantasy clothing is also available, and comes with a headpiece with attached cape, muscle chest jumpsuit with attached boot tops and vinyl belt. Also popular with kids and adults alike, Elvis fantasy costumes include jeweled eagle high collared shirt trimmed with gold studs. These also feature satin-lined sequin scarves, detachable capes with sequin lining, belt with gold glitter eagle crest, and flared pants with red sequin insets. The whole outfit is trimmed with pretend bullion studs and is an officially licensed Elvis costume.

Modern Prospects of Fantasy Clothing

Each one of us is familiar with the standard clothing in developed nations; however in some parts of the world, history seems to be frozen in the bygone eras. But barring these obscure regions, now almost the entire globe is in the same league. Modern sci-fi and fantasy films are depicting the same fantasy glory and a future that is certainly going to look a lot different. These depictions in fantasy genres have caused a spike in interest in fantasy clothing.

These ideas mean we may start to see Medieval fantasy attire combine with future ideas and concepts in fantasy clothing. The coming age will witness cybernetic arms, strange clothes, chips and cables everywhere. There is an absolute freedom to create clothing of any sort, and as such, those interested in fantasy clothing will begin to incorporate their own concepts into their attire.

All About Chef Uniforms Traditional and Latest Styles and Fashions

February 9th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

One very instantly recognizable uniform is the chef’s uniform. The distinct chefs hat or toque, double breasted jacket and checkered trousers are easily identifiable and with the recent popularity in celebrity TV chefs, the recognizability has been pushed even further. One most distinct way of identifying a chef is by the toque or chefs hat. Even with varying colors or patterns of trousers and jackets, the hat is the single most distinguishing feature.

While no strict or stringent rules exist for the uniforms worn by chefs, a few common articles of clothing which serve several purposes are constant. The most widely used colors and textures are a pure white double breasted jacket and a checkered pattern, also known as hounds-tooth, for the trousers. The toque is always white and has always remained this way. One other important article of the uniform is the apron. The apron prevents stains of the chefs uniform from food splatters or spills.

The chefs uniforms are not there merely for show, however. They also serve to protect the wearer and also, in some cases, display rank. The double breasted jacket is made of very thick fabric that protects the chef from the high heat of the stoves that he works with. The long sleeves also protect from splattering of hot oil or the spills of hot liquids.

The jacket itself is reversible so that it can quickly be changed over to hide major spills or stains. The buttons on the jacket were traditionally made out of knotted cloth. This rendered the buttons more robust and capable of withstanding numerous washing cycles. This would also serve to prevent plastic buttons from melting or disfiguring for the heat. The checkered hounds-tooth chefs trousers were useful in hiding minor stains because of their capability of camouflaging minor stains. As with the jackets, the trousers are also made to withstand heat and flame.

The chefs hat or toque is used to denote the rank of the chef. This is signified by the height of the hat itself. Another interesting feature of the chefs hat is the number of pleats it has. Supposed to denote how many ways a chef can cook an egg, the pleats on the toque usually number one hundred.

Some chefs have personalized their chefs uniforms by adding colors and patterns or changes in design. Traditionally, however, the chefs uniforms traditional white and patterned are widely used and accepted the world over.

The Ever Changing World Of Lingerie

February 4th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

Since the first appearance of lingerie thousands of years ago on the Mediterranean island of Crete where women wore corsets made from bone designed to enhance and expose their breasts lingerie has gone through many changes. What is thought of as sexy and appealing has gone through many transformations over the years.

Going from the pagan women mentioned above who wore very revealing items to entice and seduce men where the theme of the day was to exaggerate and expose a woman’s body we move to the Middle Ages when the fashion of the day was to flatten the breasts and make them appear smaller and firmer which was the desired look of that time.

In the time of the Renaissance, we saw a return to showing off and exaggerating the female form with women wearing corsets that made the breasts look conical similar to the lingerie we have seen Madonna wear in concerts and music videos while accentuating smaller waistlines.

Up to the 18th century women started dressing a little lighter but still kept wearing tight whalebone corsets which had been despised by health experts due to the fact that they thought the devices were dangerous, which they were and for a short time these were outlawed. The mid 1800’s saw the addition of the bustle which of course made the bottom look bigger coupled with the reemergence of the corset to make the waist look smaller.

In the 1920’s with parties and flapper dresses all the rage women with thin, flat, and almost boyish figures were considered desirable so now women wore undergarments designed to slim the body and flatten the breasts with corsets now being shortened and primarily used to hold up stockings.

In the 30’s and 40’s the large breast look was in again and out came padded bras to enhance and lift the breasts to give the desired look. Indeed even the reclusive millionaire Howard Hughes invented a bra with a wire support made especially for the Actress Jane Russell.

The lingerie industry suffered a big hit in the 1960’s with all the bra burning and the feminist movement when many women started going braless as a form of protest. But at the same time lycra had been invented and the min skirt introduced which brought about the need for skimpy bikini underwear.

In today’s society the adoration of the female body is back in full bloom and one need only see the success of Victoria’s Secret to know that it shows no signs of abating for awhile.

A Man’s Guide to Women’s Lingerie

February 4th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

As men and women all over the world share their warmth on these cold wintry nights, a celebration of love looms on the horizon, and with it, the promise of the coming spring. The rituals of Valentines Day so often consists of a box of chocolates and some roses, followed by dinner, and an expectation of some better than the usual sex. Ever wonder if it could get any better than this? It can.

Here’s a wake up call to men of all ages. It’s up to you to make it better. Take hold of the reins and do the unexpected. Surprise your lover and she’ll surprise you beyond your wildest expectations. Give her some sexy lingerie, then sit back and enjoy the show! Lingerie - the gift that keeps on giving!

Women love to look pretty, men love to look at pretty women, so what’s the problem here? Granted, most men’s ultimate goal is to get their women naked, but throw into the equation a tightly laced thong teddy with a skirted garter and fishnet hose - heck, getting there is half the fun!

Lingerie comes in many styles and materials and is conveniently available online (for those of us who don’t particularly want to make a trip to Victoria’s Secret). Online lingerie retailers ship their products discreetly in plain boxes so as not to spill the beans to the neighbors, your wife, or the person you want to surprise. And there’s good news for those men who like their women big; plenty of stores out there that offer plus size lingerie, up to 3X!

With all this in mind, men need to become educated consumers in a world of lingerie that is primarily dominated by women. It is for this reason that I have taken it upon myself to write this informative “Man’s Guide to Women’s Lingerie”.

Corsets and Bustier: a history of lingerie

As recently as the 1830’s, the corset was thought of as a medical necessity. Being that women were the weaker sex, they needed the support of a laced corset to hold them up for any length of time. Girls from the ages of two or three began their lives being strapped in daily to a tight laced corset. Unfortunately for the women, by the time they reached their prime they were unable to stand or sit upright for very long without getting the “vapors”.

Early corsets were made from canvas, (plenty of that around from all the sailing ships) and had laces all the way up the back pulled so tight as to make it darn near impossible to draw a deep breath. Needless to say, the prevailing fashion (or fetish) of the day was a very small waist line.

Today’s modern corset is made from softer and suppler materials such as silk, satin and lace, (as well as leather) to name a few. It is designed to accentuate a woman’s curves, not to alter them. For many men there is nothing more arousing than the sight of a willing accomplice all dressed up in a tight little laced up leather corset, and it’s a turn on for women too!

Out of the corset evolved the “Bustier”, predecessor to the modern day brazier. It seems that men even back then liked to see their women’s breasts pushed up and squeezed together! A bustier is basically an underwire bra that extends down to the waistline. Traditionally with a lace up front, today’s bustiers can fasten in a variety of ways. Zippers, snaps, hooks and eyes, (remember the trouble we had undoing bras in high school?) even Velcro seems to get the job done. Keep in mind the fastenings when considering a lingerie purchase. The removal of these garments can at times try a man’s patience. Remember the times when you’ve been asked to take it easy and slow down? Do it now, and savor the moment!

Another popular lingerie design is what’s known as the “Teddy”. Similar to a corset in design, a teddy is a one piece suit that starts out as a bustier, extends down between the legs as a thong, and ends up fastening to the back of the bodice. Simple by definition, teddies can take the form of something resembling a harness, to a full fledged zippered, hooked, and laced corset with an attached thong. Many teddies come with garter belts attached, adding endless possibilities for some naughty, bad little girls’ psychopathic imagination to run wild with.

For the truly innocent, perpetual virgin nice girl look, consider the “Baby Doll”. A short mini hanging to the waist that can be worn with or without the matching bra and panties, the baby doll is usually made from some sheer, lightweight material with varying degrees of transparency. The baby doll lingerie style gets its name from; well…you figure it out!

Today, ladies lingerie is easier than ever to shop for. Do a search on lingerie and you’ll find a multitude of reputable lingerie dealers and merchants. Browse through their catalogs and you’re sure to find something that stirs your, um… interest.

Sizing is an issue that must be dealt with, and a good lingerie site will have size charts easily accessible. While lingerie is generally pretty forgiving size wise, (a lot of lingerie is marked one size fits all) you should know at a minimum if she’s a small, medium or large. If you see sizes like 32, 38, etc….why don’t you just ask her her size!

When shopping for lingerie, keep in mind that a gift of lingerie should stimulate both you and your partner. Get her something that you like, and don’t be afraid to push the envelope! Lingerie encompasses a huge variety of styles; from a couple of pasties and a thong, to an elegant satin and lace gown with matching bra and panties! Do not overlook the possibilities of Leather Lingerie. Leather has become mainstream and is not just for bikers and sado/masochists any more. Women love the feel of leather on their bare skin, and peeling off a tight leather teddy is a real treat!

Lingerie for your baby and you can’t lose! Give her a gift of lingerie, and you do yourself a favor! The gift that keeps on giving - all year round!

How to Tell if a Web Site Sells Authentic Designer Handbags

February 4th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

There are many web sites out there claiming to sell authentic designer handbags. Unfortunately, many of these web sites, although claiming to sell authentic handbags, are in reality selling fakes. Here are some simple tips that can help you figure out whether a web site is selling authentic goods.

1. Guarantee: A web site selling authentic hand bags will always have a guarantee: Authentic or money back. If this policy is not listed on the web site, contact the web site operators to find out if they offer such a guarantee. If they don’t it indicates that they are not so very much convinced that the goods they are selling are really authentic.

2. Quality: If the web site claims that the products being sold are of the best quality, or something along these lines, something is wrong. If they are selling authentic goods, then the quality is constant and is equal to the quality offered by each competitor. If they talk about offering good quality, they are really saying that they have good quality fakes.

3. Chinese connections: Companies based in China are almost always selling fakes. To find out where a company is based, go to http://whois.sc and enter the domain name. You will normally see who registered this domain. If this is an address in China, stay away. The domain information will also include the IP address. Click on this IP address and see it’s information. You will, amongst other things, get a location. If the location is in China, stay away.

4. Louis Vuitton: If a web site is selling Louis Vuitton goods, this is usually a very bad sign. The only web sites that sell authentic Louis Vuitton goods are eluxury.com and vuitton.com. Other web sites may have a limited choice available in limited qualities, but even that is exceptional. Some people do sell authentic Louis Vuitton on eBay. These sellers will usually be a member of MyPoupette. Look for the MyPoupette logo before buying Louis Vuitton from eBay.

5. Contact: A trust worthy web site will list a street address. If a web site does not list a street address or phone number, stay away.

6. Return policy: Stay away from web sites that will not take returns.

There is no simply formula that will determine whether a web site sells authentic designer handbags. You always have to use your own judgment. But the above rules should help you make this judgment with better confidence.

How To Choose A Swimsuit You Can Actually Wear

February 4th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

Too many times women will fall in love with a swimsuit in the store and then never put it on again. Why does this happen? The main reason is that the suit isn’t practical for active use. When buying a swimsuit there are some important considerations to look at before buying, not the least of which is whether you are going to be active in it, like playing volleyball or just lying in the sun.

Let’s take a look at some of the things we want to consider.

First off, you want to choose the right suit for your body type. For example, if you have wide hips or a little bit of a tummy you want to use blocks of color on one-piece suits constructed of darker fabric on the bottom and a lighter top half. You also want at least 15% spandex.

If you aren’t naturally or otherwise endowed in the top, choose a lightly padded halter or a bra style with an underwire. You can also divert attention away from a smaller bust by using suits with texture and small print designs.

If you have the opposite problem or blessing, whichever way you want to look at it, you can minimize a larger chest by wearing a darker top with a higher neck. Make sure that the suit offers the support you need and choose a wider bottom to give you balance.

For a small or petite frame, a one piece with thin vertical striping can help and you can make short legs look longer with a higher cut on the hip. If you have a boyish figure, you can give yourself the illusion of a smaller waistline with a tankini and if you have what you consider to be an overly round bottom you can wear a “skort”, the short and skirt combination to divert attention.

If you are one of the lucky ones with nice toned legs and shoulders, show them off with a bikini or a more revealing one piece.

These days, you can mix and match tops and bottoms when buying bikinis, so have fun with that. Just remember what you are going to use the suit for. If you plan on being in the water a lot you may not want a light thin material, unless you are an exhibitionist!

If you are going to be doing some kind of athletic activity you wan to be sure that you have the proper support so that you don’t end up falling out while jumping for a volleyball.

Getting Your Wedding Prep List Ready

February 4th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

You’ve met the right man, and you have the perfect ring on your finger.

This is the time to plan the perfect wedding. Wedding planning may be stressful and upsetting at times because you to make things perfect for you and your husband to be. All it requires is a little communication and patience while you make what seems like a never-ending list of choices and decisions.

Just like with any big happening, it gets a good deal more manageable if you break your wedding planning down into smaller items to focus on.

First item on your wedding prep list is to decide on the kind of reception you may like to have. Will this be a large wedding, or a more intimate gathering of friends and family? Talk with your relatives and soon to be in-laws to get an idea of what their needs are, considering that their concept of “small” may be very different than yours. After you have a general idea of how many guests you will have, you can then visit reception centers and talk with their representatives about what they offer.

Remember that the places you choose to visit have usually hosted many weddings before yours, and they can be a valuable resource for suggestions that you may not have thought about. It is normal to not have all the answers immediately, and many reception sites will gladly let you take their information so you can spend time looking at what they offer. If you have questions, be sure to ask them, as this is a good way to see how flexible the site and staff will be to meet your individual needs. Of course, you will need to determine your wedding budget, as the reception will be where you spend most of your wedding budget.

The next item on your wedding prep list is to choose the food and the wedding cake. It’s a great idea to sample the food at each reception site, preferably the same food you might choose for your wedding. The time of day that you choose to get married will also impact your food choice. If you choose a mid-morning wedding, you might prefer to have a brunch buffet, while an evening wedding calls for more a more formal presentation.

Whatever you choose, do not hesitate to ask for references from the company that will be providing the food at your reception. These references will take you beyond the food preparation and help you evaluate service and accuracy.

Next on the wedding prep list is flowers, invitations, music and photography. These are individual choices you make based on the style you seek for your wedding. These are also areas where you can trim some of your wedding budget if you need to. Considering a simplified invitation and less formally arranged flowers can save you hundreds of dollars.

Keep in mind that the “model wedding” does not necessarily need to be the most costly one. Use your creativity and you will find that your wedding is just as perfect as the man you have chosen to marry.

A Look At Different Types Of Lingerie

February 4th, 2008 at 12:00am Under Clothing

Lingerie in the broadest sense of the term has come a long way from the boned corsets worn by the women of early Crete and the whalebone corsets worn in the 18th century when women had to undergo painful transformations of tightening laces and pulling the corsets tight to make their waistlines appear smaller. In those days women were wearing the undergarments to attract men and to display what was thought to be the appealing form of the day.

Today’s lingerie is designed more for the woman in that it is made to be comfortable in addition to being sexy. This has resulted in a boom for the lingerie industry while the overall clothing industry has actually seen a decline. We see sexy lingerie showing up everywhere even in department stores previously seen as conservative.

Let’s take a look at the basic types of lingerie available today.

First we have practical lingerie which is bought for everyday use and also possible to send the signal that this isn’t your lucky night! This includes everything from everyday garments for work to just plain standard nighttime sleepwear. Sometimes you just want something plain for lounging around in and lingerie doesn’t always have to be babydolls and teddy’s.

Secondly we have the category of sexy lingerie. Some women who buy this type of lingerie do so to feel sexy throughout the day having the knowledge that they are hiding something provocative under their everyday clothing. This also can give a woman a sense of power and confidence knowing that if her male co-worker had any idea what she had on underneath it would drive him insane.

Finally, we have my favorite, naughty lingerie! This is the kind of lingerie that is designed to seduce and entrance. While usually worn for special occasions it can be exciting to wear nightly if you have several different items to make it stay interesting and fun. This the type of lingerie most purchased by men, I wonder why!

Have fun with shopping for lingerie and don’t be afraid to take a walk on the wild side. If you want to get some good ideas on what is hot go to a classy club that has exotic dancers and take note of what they are wearing. These women make a good living and usually are wearing the latest lingerie fashions.
